So, I have a question for everyone. The seller of this jacket on Ebay wants over $1,000 it. It's a cute jacket, I really like it, but I've gotta ask myself, would I have bought this jacket if I saw it in the store, if it didn't come from Twilight? I think the answer is probably no, but I'm just curious what others think. Don't you think $1,000 for a jacket (even if it's from Twilight) is a little extreme?
ReplyDeleteI guess it depends on how much money you have on whether it is outrageous or not. I can't afford it, but I am a college student. So I'm not even thinking about bidding on it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm the same, a college student who has to worry about student loans more than a jacket, regardless of how cute and comfy it looks. I really like that you list similar items that are less expensive, I'm terrible at creating outfits and you find such great similar pieces, it's really helpful!
ReplyDeleteI wanna find that fair isle sweater/vest that Kristen is wearing in the New Moon set pictures, but it seems like it may have been a thrift store find for the wardrobe department.
$1,000 is ridiculous. I'll admit I was one of the people who was selling the BB Dakota Leigh jacket on Ebay. I had it in Lake Blue when it was impossible to find. I didn't expect bidding to go more than $75 for it but it ended selling for over $500! Go figure.
ReplyDeleteOn that note though, anyone interested in getting a CHEAPER version of the BB Dakota Leigh jacket needs to check Nordstrom Racks in another week or so. They will be selling it in all sizes in Lake Blue for $40 + tax as opposed to the $64 it is going for. They will also have it in additional colors (Black, tan etc). They ship out for $10 anywhere so word to the wise. I already have been in contact with the store and have mine reserved in the size I need. ;0)
It actually sold for $1,500.

The seller got too greedy in the end. I was watching the auction a couple times and the starting bid was like $25, then ultimately went up to $600. Then the auction "disappeared" and came back with a starting bid of $610 - which was the price of the former auction. Then THAT one was removed and then the seller relisted it with the whopping buy it now price of $1,500, and claimed they were having problems with eBay and if eBay "removed" the ad again they were just going to quit. Yeah right.
I talked to a person at Nordstrom who said that every year Rubbish releases a wool jacket. This past season it was the zip up, before it was the button up, and there were also some with toggles, some plaid, some solid, etc. I'm hoping that the company will notice the demand for the re-release of the button up solid jackets and release them this fall. I was told by August the new winter clothes will be featured, I'd laugh so hard if the jacket came back. I have a zip up version from Nordstrom Rack and it's not really that comfortable. I got the BB Dakota jacket in blue before Twilight came out and it's so much more comfortable than the Rubbish one. I'm glad Nordstrom Rack will be releasing it again, it will finally give people a chance to own the jacket. I was at a REI store in Seattle a couple of days ago, and there was a teenage girl with her mother looking through the jacket racks, and the girl said, "They don't have any more Mom", and I'm positive she was talking about the Billabong jacket. I love that the costume designers are using mass produced clothes that are available to people from all walks of life, but I really hate these people who are buying 10 jackets and putting them on Ebay to exploit the desires of young girls who just want to relate to Bella. (Natalie I'm not talking about you!)

The jacket is an exact copy of Bella's and made to order. I sent them my measurements and less than 2 weeks later I got the jacket in the mail. It is perfect. Now that I have the mittens, jacket and Curious Gypsy thermal I can dress up at Bella for New Moon! :0)
Anyway, for those of you who are interested you can get the jacket for $99 plus $40 s/h from Hong Kong. I recommend this seller.

ReplyDeleteI purchased one of the Rubbish replica jackets from cosplayying a few months ago. He accepted my offer of $95. The quality is excellent! The fabric is a tad lighter than the original Rubbish jacket, but not a bid deal. The fabric is extremely soft and will keep you very warm. The price is very reasonable for a custom made jacket. I suggested to the Seller he thrown in extra buttons for the jacket. He sent me five and said he would include extras in all future purchases. You won't be sorry!

The other replicas look good except for the plaid jacket. The plaid fabric is off and the interior is royal blue?! He used to auction Edward's Grey Twilight Peacoat, but I don't see it for auction.

For anyone wanting something sort of like the Rubbish jacket: At Walmart, "Faded Glory" makes a brown cotton hoodie with a beige sherpa material in the lining and hood (not inside of the sleeves). It's in the little boys section. I can easliy fit into a boys large, and even a medium for a more tighter fit. The only thing is that the sleeves are a little short. BUT, if you plan on wearing long gloves, such as the ones Bella wore in the film, it wouldn't be a problem. So yeah, just an idea. I recommend trying it on in the store to see how it fits you. ReplyDeleteI have found a similar jacket in Primark. It's a zip up number rather than buttoned and the colour is a bit darker, but it's lovely and comfortable and has white faux-fur inside the hood.
